The Everton F.C. on P2P4U Net

Everton Football Club is a favorite of P2P4U net, primarily because they have competed in the top tier of English football for 108 years, which is also a record. The Everton Football Club was founded in 1878 and ten years later they helped to found The Football League where they would win their first tile in 1890. Everton has played in the top division of English football continuously since 1954 and were one of the original founders of the Premier league when it was created in 1992.

Today, Everton plays in a stadium located in Liverpool known as Goodison Park which has the capacity to seat over 40,000 fans. Everton has played in Goodison Park since it was completed in 1892 though P2P4U believes that that lengthy tradition may soon be coming to an end since there have been whispers of a new stadium since 1996. The estimated capacity of such a new stadium would be around 55,000-60,000 fans though Everton must first secure financing for such a large project.

Everton averages around 36,000 fans for their home matches in Goodson Park and while it may not be as high as some of the better known clubs P2P4U lists Everton fans as one of the most fanatical groups of fans in English football. Everton has a few nicknames that the fans are especially fond of including The Toffees, The Toffemen, The Blues, The School of Science and The People’s Club. Fans of Everton are affectionately known as Evertonians and always turn out in large numbers to watch football at Goodison Park. The main rivalry for Everton is with fellow Liverpool team Liverpool Football Club and the two teams annually clash in what is known as the Merseyside Derby, which is one of the better known rivalry games in English football.

The home colors of Everton have been royal blue and white for over 100 years while their away kit consists of a gold shirt with blue trimmings and dark blue shorts. The most famous Everton player is typically recognized to be Dixie Dean, who also happens to be Everton’s top goalscorer. Dean played with Everton from 1925 to 1937 and managed to score 349 goals in 399 appearances with the team. Dean also holds the record for most goals in a single season with 60. P2P4U net recognizes Graeme Sharpe as second on the all time list of goals scored with 159 during his career. The current Everton manager, David Moyes, has been with the team since 2002 and has been named manager of the year three times while with the club.

Throughout its history Everton has typically been on the cutting edge of new developments within English football.  For example, Everton was the first professional soccer club to intentionally build a new home stadium, which is Goodison Park. Everton was also the first club to sub-soil heating on their home turf. If you like to sit down and watch football on your television you can also thank Everton for paving the way for that particular development as a match between Everton and Arsenal in 1936 was the first football match to be televised. Everton also set the standard for international competition when it was the first club to participate in an international football tour. Everton has continued this trend even in modern times by being the first club with its own podcast and the first club with its own social networking site. P2P4U net looks forward to seeing Everton continue to push the boundaries of English football in the future as well.

Like most English football clubs Everton has also had plenty of appearances in popular culture. From books and movies to songs and television programs Everton Football Club always seems to find a way into the limelight in one way or another. In addition to being the object of popular culture Everton has also had a hand in its creation as well; most notably the club has released a variety of different songs that have managed to appear on the UK pop charts.

After finishing 8th in the Premier league in 2010-2011 Everton looks to be a real competitor heading into the next campaign.  With stars such as Andrew Johnson, Philip Neville and Joseph Yobo the team stands a real chance of making some noise in the Premier league in 2011-12.
