P2P4U Net: Tottenham Hotspur F.C.

Although it is not as well known as other English football clubs such as Manchester United or Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has had a history of success in English football matched only by these other elite clubs. The club was originally founded as Hotspur Football Club in 1882 and later changed their name to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. One of Tottenham Hotspur’s most notable achievements occurred over the last sixty years when the club won a major trophy in every decade since 1950, something which only Manchester United was also able to do. Tottenham Hotspur’s first major win came in 1901 when they won the F.A. Cup. Tottenham Hotspur was also the first club to win both the League Cup and the F.A. Cup in the same season, back in 1960-61. Another first that Tottenham Hotspur achieved was becoming the first British football club to win the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963. Tottenham Hotspur’s last major trophy came in 2008 when they won the League Cup and topped the Premier league. In 2010-11 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. finished a respectable 5th in the Premier league.

Tottenham Hotspur is most often known by both fans and rivals as the Spurs, though they have also been known to be called the lilywhites from time to time thanks in large part to their primarily white home kits. The home colors for the Spurs are blue and white and the current home uniform is all white except for the navy blue shorts. The away kit is a bit more eccentric and is almost completely blue except for a few well placed patches of white. The official crest of Tottenham Hotspur features a cockerel balancing on top on an English football with the name of the team written below in blue letters on a white background.

Tottenham Hotspur has played on a variety of different grounds over the past 120 years, some of which P2P4U believes were a bit more charming and quaint than their current residence. The first ground that the Spurs called home was Tottenham Marshes where the club played home matches for the first 6 years of its existence. After a short stop in Northumberland Park the Spurs eventually settled in at White Hart Lane where stands were built to accommodate the club’s ever growing fan base. A series of renovations and expansions over the last hundred years have increased the capacity of White Hart Lane to over 36,000 people, though at times there are still more fans than seats at many home matches.

Like many other football clubs Tottenham Hotspur has a Latin motto that translates into something profound. The motto for the Spurs is “Audere est Facere,” which literally translates into “To do is to dare.”

Even though it shares its area of influence with a handful of other clubs Tottenham Hotspur has maintained one of the best attendance records over the years and routinely hosts sold out matches at White Hart Lane. The supporters of Tottenham Hotspur also have rivalries with the fans of other local clubs, especially with fans of Arsenal since the clubs both draw heavily out of North London.

The Appearance record for the Spurs is held by Steve Perryman who P2P4U net calculates appeared in 854 games for the club from 1969 to 1986. The goal scoring record is held by a man named Jimmy Greaves who scored a prolific 266 goals in only 380 games. Second on the all-time scorer list for the Spurs is Bobby Smith who scored 208 goals in 317 matches. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. is currently managed by Harry Redknapp who has led the club to 70 wins in 145 games, good enough for a 45.28 winning percentage which is the sixth highest winning percentage in club history. Since 1882 the Spurs have won an impressive 8 F.A Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 first division championships and two UEFA cups and while their last big win was in 2008 the club looks to be heading in the right direction under the guidance of veteran manger Harry Redknapp. In the next season or two P2P4U net would not be surprised to see this squad at the top of the Premier league, or at least close to it.
