P2P4U Net: Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool Football Club is one of the most popular English football clubs around, and for good reason. Dating back to 1892, Liverpool Football Club has had a rather successful history that includes 18 league titles, 7 League Cups and 7 FA cups. The success of Liverpool has also carried over to the European continent as well where the club has won 3 UEFA Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups and five European cups, making Liverpool, in the opinion of P2P4U net, the most successful English club to compete in Europe.

Since its inception in 1892 Liverpool F.C. has continuously played at the same home ground, known as Anfield. Although Anfield was originally home to Everton Football Club, Liverpool took over the stadium in 1892 when Everton moved to their new home in Goodison Park. In its current state, Anfield has a maximum capacity of just over 45,000 fans, which is P2P4U estimates is just above the league average.

Although Liverpool is most widely known for their winning way there are a few dark spots in the history of the club, and not just on the field. In 1985 a group of opposing fans that came out to watch football at Heysel Stadium were killed when a mob of Liverpool fans caused a wall to collapse. A similar tragedy occurred only a few years later in 1989 when close to 100 Liverpool fans were killed after being crushed against a fence at Hillsborough stadium.

Unlike most English football teams Liverpool only has one nickname that is used by fans, and that is “The Reds.” This nickname comes from the home colors of Liverpool which have been red for most of the clubs history. The Liverpool crest is also primarily red though it also features white and blue as well. Those that watch football at Anfield can easily point out Liverpool players because their all red kits.

Since they are based in Liverpool, England the main rivals of the Liverpool Football Club are obviously going to be clubs that reside in the same city, such as Everton F.C. Contest between Liverpool and Everton are known as the Merseyside Derby, a match that routinely sells out with fans coming from all over to watch the two clubs go at it. Although not based in the city of Liverpool, Manchester United is also considered to be a rival of Liverpool and because both clubs are based in North West England the contests between these two is often called the North West Derby. The matches between these two clubs are a favorite of P2P4U because the competition is always so fierce.

P2P4U net has also calculated that Liverpool is one of the most popular football clubs in the world. Along with its many championships and cups Liverpool can also boast of the highest average attendance in all of Europe. Fans of Liverpool often call one another kopites in homage to the fans that sit on the Kop in Anfield during Liverpool home matches. The clubs anthem is recognized by most fans to be “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” which has been a fan favorite to sing at Anfield since the 1960s.

The all-time leading scorer for Liverpool is Ian Rush, who managed to score 346 goals while with the team between 1980 and 1996. Second on the all-time list is Roger Hunt with 286 goals in 492 appearances with the club. Hunt also has the record for most league goals with the team, which stands at 249. P2P4U net notes that while Rush may have scored the most goals with the team, over one hundred of his goals came in competitions that took place outside of The League, such as the FA cup, which places him slightly behind Roger Hunt with only 229 League goals.

The current manager of Liverpool Football Club is Kenny Dalglish, who was hired in 2011 to manage the team following a less than promising campaign by former manager Roy Hodgson. Dalglish was originally hired to manage the team back in 1985 following the Heysel Stadium Disaster but resigned from the club in 1991 even though he had been quite successful. While with the club Dalglish managed to win the manager of the year award no less than three times, quite an impressive feat in the eyes of P2P4U.
